Overview

The curriculum for Advanced non-invasive Cardiac Imaging Training Program at Geisinger Medical Center - Geisinger Heart Institute is designed to provide outstanding training in the diagnostic evaluation of a wide variety of patients with acute and chronic cardiovascular diseases. The experiences obtained by the advanced imaging fellows in this program are more than sufficient to allow them to acquire the competency and expertise of a specialist in the field of advanced non-invasive cardiac imaging.

During their training at the Geisinger Heart Institute Training Program, the fellows are exposed to both intensive didactic instruction and substantial direct procedural experiences. This approach equips the advanced imaging fellow with the intellectual and technical skills to diagnose the entire spectrum of cardiovascular diseases from acute and chronic coronary artery disease to acute and chronic heart failure, cardiomyopathy, valvular heart disease, pulmonary heart disease, infectious and inflammatory heart disease, pericardial diseases, and adult congenital heart disease.

On-Call
The on-call is taken from home; however, the fellows are frequently called back to the hospital to evaluate critically ill patients. Call is one week night and two weekends a month, one Saturday or Sunday. During the week the fellows basically work from 7 am until approximately 6 pm.
Mission
Provide superior training to cardiovascular specialists who wish to become experts in advanced cardiac imaging.

Vision
Our program's philosophy mirrors the institution's vision to provide our trainee's with the ability to Heal, Teach, Discover, and Serve.

The Fellow's Role
As evidenced by our mission and vision statements, education plays a central role in the system. The Advanced Non-Invasive Cardiovascular Imaging Fellowship Program strives to uphold these ideals, and further advance patient care in the region.

The Cardiovascular Department at Geisinger Medical Center believes strongly in the development of the complete cardiologist. As such, fellows are treated in a collegial and humane manner, with careful focus on developing the broadest possible clinical range of cardiovascular skills, as well as personal growth.

Our goal is to train fellows to become excellent sub-specialists.
