News - The fellowship program received continued accreditation effective Feb. 3, 2009 through our next anticipated survey in 2014.
- Duane Deivert DO, chief fellow for 2008-2009 will join our practice at Geisinger-Wyoming Valley Medical Center.
- Amit Johal MD will join our practice at Geisinger Medical Center.
- An endosonography program was initiated in State College by Drs. Diehl and Hashem on Jan. 29, 2009.
- Major endoscopy suite renovation is currently underway at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center. Anticipated completion is September 2009.
- Liver transplant program obtained CMS approval – December 2007.
- Geisinger Medical Center’s endoscopy department recently received a first-of-its-kind Certificate of Recognition for quality and safety from the prestigious American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) and was one of only 56 endoscopy units to be recognized nationally. The ASGE is a national professional organization dedicated to advancing patient care and digestive health through excellence in endoscopy. This is the first year that the organization recognized outstanding departments in the United States with the certificate.
“This certificate reflects the endoscopy department’s commitment to quality care,” said Michael Komar, MD, Geisinger’s Gastroenterology Director. “We are honored to receive this recognition and to be included with other centers such as the University of Pennsylvania.”
