Applicants must be graduates of accredited Internal Medicine (or Internal-Medicine/Pediatrics) residency programs and must have a demonstrated interest in education and/or research. Applicants should desire to develop as clinician-educators or researchers in General Internal Medicine, and should aspire to careers as leaders in that field.

Applicants must have or be eligible for Pennsylvania MD/DO licensure, and have a DEA registration number. They should be eligible for the ABIM or ABOIM board examinations but certification is not required.
