This two-year fellowship in rheumatology accepts two level-one trainees and 2 level-two trainees for a total of 4 trainees.

Applicants must have completed a residency in internal medicine and be board eligible. 

The department staff of 5 full-time, board-certified rheumatologists’ managers and annual caseload of 15,000 outpatient visits.

Conferences
The department of rheumatology has an active teaching conference schedule that is conducted on a weekly basis.  Time is allotted for the staff and trainees to attend and interact at conferences 4 out of 5 days each week.  In addition, trainees are allotted time to attend internal medicine grand rounds as well as internal medicine morning report and noon conferences when rheumatology patients and topics are presented.  These conferences allow the trainee to actively participate in the internal medicine teaching program.

Mission and vision
The department of rheumatology is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of all patients with diseases of the joints (arthritis), disorders of muscle, connective tissue diseases, education, research, and clinical care of patients with various rheumatic disorders.

Publications
The department of rheumatology is actively involved in publications in conjunction with the fellowship program. The department averages one to two publications on an annual basis.

Services

  • Diagnosis and treatment of diseases that affect joints (arthritis), immune disorders of muscle, connective tissue diseases, immune diseases of blood vessels (vasculitis), and a variety of soft tissue inflammatory conditions (bursitis, tendinitis)
  • Consultative or ongoing clinical care for the above problems
  • Full laboratory support for immunologic studies
  • Joint/bursa aspiration and injection
  • Consultative services for osteoporosis diagnosis and treatment - osteoporosis disease management program
  • Patient education
  • Physical and occupational therapy, social services, counseling
  • Research Studies of rheumatologic disorders
  • Interpretation of DXA scans
