About Us

We appreciate your interest in the Geisinger Health System Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship.

The Geisinger Health System Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship was established in 2007 after recognizing the need for primary care physicians with expertise in medical care of the active patient.

The fellowship offers an array of sports medicine educational activities. The fellows will have the opportunity to work with sports medicine clinicians who serve as team physicians for local colleges and professional teams (Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, Wilkes University, Misericordia Univeristy, Bucknell University). In addition, the fellows will serve as team physicians for a Wilkes-Barre high school and university. We will offer unique sports medicine experiences for our fellows. Some events the fellows will provide medical coverage include the Keystone State Games, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (Pittsburgh Penguins minor league hockey), and Pennsylvania professional boxing and mixed martial arts.

We have outstanding faculty who are distinguished by their breadth of knowledge, true desire in teaching, and who share the same values and vision for the program.

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area has vast number of social, recreational and athletic activities that one can enjoy. It is a tremendous place for spouses in that it offers numerous job opportunities and family activities.

I invite you to explore our fellowship, and hope you enjoy your visit with us.

David S. Ross, MD
Program Director

A recent in-service was held in Wilkes-Barre at Mohegan Sun Arena; Geisinger Sports Medicine physicians held a live on-ice demonstration of spine boarding immobilization techniques. The event was attended by local certified athletic trainers and King's College athletic training students, as well as emergency medical personnel.
