| | Research | The Geisinger Health System participates in more than 400 research projects. Many of these are clinically based, and many involve Internal Medicine residents. The Hood Center for Health Research is active with increasing involvement of trainees. In addition, our campus houses the Weis Center for Research, primarily focused on basic science research in medical genetics and vascular disease. It has distinguished itself in several important areas, receiving millions of dollars of support for its research mission. Our residency supports house staff interested in research. Web-based teaching covers basic principles of research and research ethics. Residents may use some or all of their elective months exclusively for research. When housestaff present their work, Geisinger pays the travel, lodging, registration, preparation of audiovisuals, as well as providing assistance in preparation from a statistician. All housestaff participate in research or another form of scholarly work. Numerous research projects and presentations have been given at regional and national conferences. |
