Welcome to Geisinger’s Med-Peds Program!
Geisinger Health System (GHS), serving nearly 3 million residents throughout 44 counties in central and northeastern Pennsylvania, is a fully integrated system widely recognized for its innovative use of Electronic Health Record (EHR)- connecting 3 hospitals, 38 community practice sites, and more than 900 Geisinger primary and specialty care physicians, the development and implementation of innovative care models including ProvenHealth® Navigator, an advanced medical home model, and ProvenCare® programs, a multipronged approach to providing quality care at a reduced cost.
With over 250 residents and fellows in more than 28 programs, graduate medical education is an integral part of GHS. The Med-Peds residency boasts an integrated curriculum dedicated to producing qualified physicians capable of not just participating, but leading modern health care. In addition to improving medical knowledge and refining patient care skills, core components of our integrated curriculum include quality improvement, patient safety, health information technology, population-health, team-based care, research, and leadership development.
A defining feature of our residency program is the dedication to developing individual educational plans aimed at meeting each resident’s personal and professional goals. As such, residents have been able to pursue a variety of clinical activities via embedded longitudinal experiences, such as: International and Global Health, MPH pathway, Health Systems training, and Patient Advocacy and Community Health. New special interest tracks for the upcoming academic year include a Clinical Research pathway and Transitional Medicine.
