| | Conferences | Dedicated med-peds conferences include a monthly skills based lecture series, Journal Club and bi-weekly board review sessions. The monthly lecture series was developed to address and enhance basic skills and knowledge required for the general practice of internal medicine and pediatrics. The lectures are “hands-on” experiences designed to facilitate learning and provide opportunity for practice. Topics have included, but are not limited to; IV insertion, phlebotomy, PFT interpretation, arthrocentesis, splinting and casting, suturing and lesion removal, tympanometry and musculoskeletal exam techniques. Journal Club occurs monthly and utilizes an electronic discussion board, thereby allowing all residency members to participate regardless of rotation assignment. Each month a senior resident chooses several articles relevant to the practice of med-peds. The resident posts an article summary on an electronic discussion board, afterwards residents and faculty read the articles and are then able to post comments. The residents and faculty meet at the end of the month to “wrap-up” the discussion. Board review is an optional opportunity for residents wishing to increase their medical knowledge and test-taking skills. The hour long session occurs every two weeks. The question and answer format utilizes PREP and MKSAP question banks. In addition to the dedicated med-peds conferences, morning report and noon conference are held daily in both the internal medicine and pediatrics departments.
