Continuity clinic is the cornerstone of medicine-peds training. Over the span of four years, residents develop a panel of pediatric and adult patients. In the first two years of training, residents have one afternoon of continuity clinic each week. In the third and fourth years, residents have the option of adding a second afternoon of clinic during non-inpatient months. The second afternoon of clinic can be done at the primary clinic site or at a subspecialty clinic. Geisinger - Berwick, Geisinger - Lewisburg and Geisinger – Selinsgrove are multidisciplinary clinics staffed by internal medicine/pediatrics, family practice, OB/GYN and outreach subspecialists. The clinics are fully functional, offering lab and radiology services. The electronic medical record allows residents to maintain seamless contact with their patients, even while rotating at the hospital. As IM/peds trained physicians staff the clinic, you will be able to see both adults and children in the same clinic session. A new combined continuity clinic site, Geisinger - Sunbury, is being opened for the 2010 - 2011 academic year. It is a fully functional multidisciplinary clinic similar to the Berwick, Lewisburg and Selinsgrove sites. Residents wishing to stay on the Geisinger Medical Center campus, an alternating week IM and peds clinic can be arranged. Residents see pediatric patients at Knapper Clinic and adult patients at Dickey Clinic. As the clinics are located at the main hospital, all ancillary services are readily available. Again, the electronic medical record allows residents to stay abreast of their clinic patients at all times. |
