General Obstetrics, Labor & Delivery
Throughout a resident's four years of training, a significant amount of time will be spent in Labor & Delivery learning the clinical art of obstetrics.

Maternal-Fetal Medicine
During the third and fourth year of training residents spend time working one-on-one with our maternal-fetal medicine specialist. The purpose of this rotation is to develop and refine the skills and knowledge necessary for dealing with complications of obstetrical care, antepartum and postpartum. Residents will be involved in the daily ambulatory high-risk clinic under the supervision of the perinatologist. Along with direct patient management, the resident will have exposure to OB ultrasound along with techniques for antenatal diagnosis.

General Gynecology
This rotation provides the opportunity to gain experience in the ambulatory clinic setting, strengthening your knowledge of patient management, primary care and preventive medicine. Gynecology rotations also provide increased time in the operating room; enabling you to work with all our surgeons to strengthen your operating skills and techniques.

Gynecologic Oncology
This two-month rotation introduces the resident to radical pelvic surgery and improves his/her clinical skills in providing care for more critically ill patients. The resident is expected to work closely with the GYN oncologists, gaining knowledge in pre-op, operative and post-op patient management.

Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility
Third year level residents participate in a three-month clinical rotation in reproductive endocrinology, infertility and assisted reproductive technologies. The goal of this specific rotation is to expand the resident's knowledge of reproductive physiology as well as help them acquire specialized clinical skills.

Emergency Medicine
This rotation provides residents with the understanding of acute care of adults. In this one-month rotation, the goals are to develop skills in assessment, consultation and triage of acute problems which are not unique to OB/GYN.

Intensive Care Unit
This rotation is designed to provide the resident with exposure to the problems of adult intensive care for medical and surgical patients. Emphasis will be placed on developing skills in fluid and electrolyte management, familiarity with invasive cardiovascular monitoring and ventilatory support and nutritional issues in the critically ill patient.

Primary Care
With increasing emphasis being placed on primary care, rotations in designated areas of primary care provide the setting for the OB/GYN resident to prepare themselves for their roles as primary care providers. The goals of these rotations are to enhance the resident's skills in comprehensive history taking, the complete physical examination, appropriate use of laboratory studies and diagnostic techniques, patient education and counseling, as well as diagnosis and treatment of the common non-reproductive illnesses affecting women.

Gyne/Uro
During this rotation the resident works alongside 2 Gyne/Urologists, gaining experience in both outpatient and surgical management of incontinence. The resident will also become proficient at interpreting Urodynamic testing and at counseling patients with symptomtic pelvic relaxation.

Ultrasound
During this rotation the resident will work alongside Maternal Fetal Medicine Staff and gain expertise with Obstetric Ultrasound including both Level I and Level II scans. The resident will also be exposed to Ultrasound guided procedures such as genetic amniocentisis, Chorinic villus sampling, and PUBS and gain expertise at issues involved in genetic and preconceptual counseling.

Research
Residents are required to complete at least 1 research project during their four years. The projects are presented during our annual research event and must be worthy of submission to a peer-reviewed journal. The on-campus Weis Research Center has the staff and resources available to facilitate both basic and clinical research.
