Overview
The Radiology Residency Program
Geisinger Medical Center offers a four-year residency program in Diagnostic Radiology which is fully accredited by the ACGME. Our goal is to educate and train physicians to be clinically excellent diagnostic radiologists.

We strive to:

  • Inculcate core competencies into the residency experience
  • Immerse residents in imaging informatics
  • Have all of our graduates become board-certified radiologists by the American Board of Radiology
  • Prepare our residents for satisfying and professionally rewarding careers in diagnostic radiology
  • Set the foundation for life-long learning
  • Enable residents to play an integral role in patient care via imaging and image-directed interventions
  • Aid residents in providing contributions to clinicians in the care of their patients
  • Provide opportunities for research
  • Expose residents to imaging informatics

Geisinger's high volume practice with high percentage of pathology combined with our robust teaching conference schedule provides a strong foundation to the learner. Except for AFIP, all rotations are at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. On this campus is the Janet Weis Children's Hospital, the Women's Pavilion, the Weis Research Center, the Center for Health Research and Level 1 Trauma Center.

Liver and renal transplants are performed here.

There are many opportunities for systems-based practice and practiced-based learning. There is strong institutional support from the office of graduate medical education.

The majority of our staff radiologists are fellowship trained. There is an excellent faculty to resident ratio with one-on-one interaction on rotations promoting a close working relationship. All of our radiologists are board certified.
