Geisinger Clinic, in collaboration with Geisinger Medical Center, strives to educate advanced practitioners (physician assistants and nurse practitioners) in a hospital-based program geared toward enriching the region, state, and nation with advanced practitioners focused on quality of care, systems-based practice and practice-based learning and improvement.
We strive to create a precepted clinical learning experience for graduate APs to advance their knowledge, skills and competence in the six general competencies with an emphasis on patient care in a selected major area of study.
Areas of study may be selected in:
General surgery with subspecialty rotations
Neuroscience with tracks in neurology, general neurosurgery and spine surgery
Strengths of the Geisinger learning environment include:
- Fully integrated health system encompassing six hospital campuses
- Innovative use of the electronic health record to support new models of care, including ProvenHealth® Navigator, an advanced medical home model, and ProvenCare®
- A robust research department engaged in, among other specialties, genomic research
Geisinger Health System is an academic, physician-led, $1.9 billion not-for-profit health system serving nearly 3 million residents in 44 of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties, including the 448,000 members of the Geisinger Health Plan. Driven by innovation and integration of services, our five hospitals, large physician group practice and 700 advanced practitioners utilize system-wide research initiatives, progressive technology and an extensive electronic health record system to create a collaborative environment in which all clinicians work together to develop programs that improve care and provide increased value for our patients.
