We appreciate your interest in the Geisinger Northeast Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship, established in 2007 in response to the need for primary care physicians with expertise in medical care of the active patient. Our program is unique as it is an orthopedic-based sports medicine fellowship that is unopposed. We offer intense educational experiences in musculoskeletal medicine, fracture care, procedures, and MSK ultrasound.
The fellowship offers an array of sports medicine educational activities. The fellow will work with sports medicine clinicians who serve as team physicians for local colleges and professional teams (Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, Wilkes University, Misericordia University, and University of Scranton).
In addition, the fellow will serve as team physician for a Northeast Pennsylvania high school and university. Some events the fellow will provide medical coverage include the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (Pittsburgh Penguins minor league hockey), Pennsylvania Special Olympics, and Pennsylvania Professional Boxing & MMA.
We have outstanding faculty distinguished by their breadth of knowledge and true desire of teaching. Our faculty values and vision are aligned with program goals and outcomes.
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area has vast number of social, recreational, and athletic activities that one can enjoy. It is a tremendous place for spouses, offering numerous job opportunities and family activities.
I invite you to explore our fellowship, and hope you enjoy your visit with us.
