| | Introduction | The Department of Anesthesiology at the Geisinger Health System offers a 4-week elective rotation in Anesthesiology. Our Department provides care for cardiac, pediatric, obstetric and regional a wide array of patients from the central Pennsylvania region at several clinical care locations. Approximately 20,000 anesthetics are administered annually Anesthesia is administered at Geisinger Medical Center (GMC), Danville, PA, in 25 operating rooms and two operative obstetric delivery rooms. Anesthesia is also provided at GMC out-of-OR sites other than the OR for MRI, CT scanning, ECT treatments, cardiac catheterizations, and GI procedures. Approximately 20,000 anesthetics are administered annually at Geisinger Medical Center. We also provide anesthesia services at our Outpatient Surgery Center in Danville, Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, and Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre Hospital. The rotating medical student will be integrated into our services by becoming active in the daily care of our patients in both Geisinger Medical Center and our Outpatient Surgery Center. The student will learn airway management techniques, safe conduct of a general anesthesia for adult, and pediatric patients, and an introduction to neuraxial and peripheral regional anesthetic techniques.
