The medical student rotating in the Department Of Orthopaedics will be evaluated based upon multiple criteria. These include:

  1. Active participation in the daily care of orthopaedic patients
  2. Ability to work with all members of the health care team
  3. History taking and physical examinations skills
  4. Clinical judgment
  5. Ability to generate appropriate differential diagnoses
  6. Acquisition of knowledge appropriate for level of training
  7. Procedural competency (willingness to learn, assist and perform at an appropriate level)
  8. Oral presentations
  9. Ability to access and utilize the electronic health record
  10. Communication and professionalism
  11. Attendance
  12. Participation in active learning (reviewing the medical literature, text and educational resource utilization)
The student will be evaluated by attendings with resident input. Visiting students should provide evaluation forms from their respective institutions to be completed at rotation’s end. 

Grades will be distributed as follows: 

  • Honors
  • High Pass
  • Pass
  • Fail 

It is essential that all students complete a clerkship evaluation and submit it to Tracey Lepley prior to departing. The medical student’s input is strongly encouraged in order to achieve our ongoing educational objectives.
