| | Student Evaluation | The medical student rotating in the pediatric intensive care unit will be evaluated based upon multiple criteria. These include: - Active participation in the daily care of PICU patients
- Daily presentations during rounds
- Ability to work with all members of the health care team and communication skills
- History taking and physical examinations skills
- Clinical judgment
- Documentation in written and electronic health record
- Ability to generate appropriate differential diagnoses
- Obtainment of fund of knowledge appropriate for level of training
- Procedural competency (willingness to learn, assist and perform at an appropriate level)
- Oral presentations
- Ability to access and utilize the electronic health record
- Communication and professionalism with families of critically ill or injured children
- Attendance
- Participation in active learning (reviewing the medical literature, text and educational resource utilization)
The student will be evaluated by attendings with resident input. Grades will be distributed as follows: - Honors
- High Pass
- Pass
- Conditional Pass
- Fail
It is imperative that the student be provided with clinical cases, bedside teaching, formal lectures and the appropriate guidance to have a superior educational experience. Therefore, it is essential that all students complete a clerkship evaluation and submit it to Tracey Lepley prior to departing. The medical student’s input is strongly encouraged in order to achieve our educational objectives. |
