Evaluation

Evaluation criteria for the medical student rotating in the Division of Pediatrics include:

  • Active participation in the daily care of pediatric patients
  • Daily presentations during rounds
  • Ability to work with all members of the health care
  • History taking and physical examinations skills
  • Clinical judgment
  • Ability to generate appropriate differential diagnoses
  • Fund of knowledge appropriate for level of training
  • Procedural competency (i.e., willingness to learn, assist, and perform at an appropriate level)
  • Oral presentations
  • Ability to access and utilize the electronic health record
  • Communication and professionalism
  • Attendance
  • Active participation in self-learning (e.g., reviewing the medical literature, text and educational resource utilization)

The student will be evaluated by their attendings with resident input. Visiting students should provide evaluation forms required by their respective home institutions to be completed at rotation’s end by Geisinger faculty. Grades are assigned on a traditional system of Honors, High Pass, Pass, and Fail.

Students must complete and submit an anonymous clerkship evaluation form to Ms. Tracey Lepley prior to departing Geisinger. Medical student input is important for us to continue to offer high-quality educational experiences.
