Introduction

The goal of the rotation is to provide the medical student with the opportunity to become familiar with common pediatric infectious diseases in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. We expect that the student will gain an understanding of the etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis and recommended treatments of a variety of infectious diseases seen in pediatrics. The student should become knowledgeable in appropriate antimicrobial choices for various infections including an understanding of antimicrobial resistance. In addition, the student should recognize congenital and acquired immune deficiencies including their presentation, diagnosis and management.

Karen Ravin, MD is the Clinical Elective Director. Michael Ryan, DO is Director of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and the Chief of Pediatrics. Catherine O’Donnell is the Elective Coordinator and Secretary for Pediatric Infectious Diseases. Our offices and outpatient clinic are located on the sixth floor of Foss Clinic.
