The Section of Vascular Surgery at Geisinger Medical Center offers a four-week elective rotation in vascular surgery. Our department provides comprehensive care that includes primary interventional procedures such as caroitid, peripheral and visceral stenting, thoracic stent grafts and AAA stent grafts as well as advanced open and endovascular surgical procedures. The student will participate in all activities of the vascular dervice in the operating room, inpatient service and vascular clinic. The experience will provide the student an opportunity to participate in the comprehensive evaluation of patients with vascular disease, including perioperative assessment and postoperative management. The student will become acquainted with techniques of non-invasive monitoring and vascular radiology. The student will interact with the vascular faculty and fellows as well as the general surgery residents assigned to the service. The student will participate in daily conferences including clinical sessions, preoperative conferences, staff rounds, morbidity/mortality conferences and monthly journal club. Students are expected to present at conference. Opportunities for assistance with clinical research and publications are available.
