Jim Franceschelli, technical analyst lead at the School of Medicine, has been appointed associate dean for educational informational technology, effective August 2.

The associate dean for educational informational technology role is a Cabinet-level position wherein Franceschelli will be responsible for oversight and coordination of technologies supporting educational programming and administration of education across the Geisinger system. He will report directly to Steven J. Scheinman, MD, executive vice president and chief academic officer of Geisinger and president and dean of Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine (GCSOM), and will participate in Geisinger’s Executive Education Leadership Team, the Education Council, Dr. Scheinman's Cabinet and other leadership groups.

"Jim has 37 years of experience in IT, primarily at the University of Scranton and, since 2018, at GCSOM," said Dr. Scheinman. "He has the critical depth of expertise in both technology and education required of this position. I am confident he will create the consistent IT platform we need for all learners across the system, be they medical students, residents, graduate students or candidates for other health professions. System leadership has recognized the need for a single technology infrastructure for education at Geisinger and we are fortunate that Jim is ready to take on that challenge."

As associate dean for educational informational technology, Franceschelli will oversee all teaching and learning technologies, application support, administrative systems desktop support and help desk and educational research computing. His role will support undergraduate medical education, graduate medical education, graduate education, the Geisinger Academy, continuing professional education, library services, faculty data and support, simulation, pipeline programs, partnerships with other educational institutions and other components of education at Geisinger.

Before coming to GCSOM in 2018, Jim served as director of Information Technology Services at the University of Scranton, where he worked for more than 30 years. He is pursuing an MBA from that institution.
