Kristen Suchniak Mussari, MD ’13
Hershey Medical Center/Penn State
Specialty: Internal Medicine
Hometown: York, PA
To Kristen Suchniak Mussari, MD ’13, “It is very exciting and rewarding to be a first-year resident. Patients finally view you as 'their' physician, and it is a great experience to be able to (almost) independently manage the care of patients on your service.”
Dr. Mussari matched with Hershey Medical Center/Penn State, PA, specializing in internal medicine. When asked how she felt her Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine education prepared her for residency, she replied, “I feel like my Geisinger Commonwealth education has enabled me to consider many aspects of patient care, not just those medical in nature, but also the social issues that so many patients face such as access to care or ability to obtain their prescribed medications, as well as the importance of continuity of care.”
Her advice for graduating students: “Enjoy your last year of medical school! Never get so caught up in the amount of work you have to do as a resident that you are distracted from what brought you into medicine in the first place – helping others.”
Dr. Mussari has also enjoyed a few life accomplishments in addition to graduating from Geisinger Commonwealth. She married on May 24, 2013, and recently had a case report that she worked on in medical school published in the Journal of the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology with Geisinger Commonwealth associate professor of dermatology, Gregg Severs, DO, titled, “Oral and Cutaneous Lichenoid Drug Eruption Secondary to Imatinib Mesylate: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.”
