MBS leader: Maddison Vail
Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine's (GCSOM's) Graduate Student Council recognizes Maddison Vail as December Leader of the Month.
Graduate Student Council honors Master of Biomedical Sciences (MBS) student Maddison Vail for her leadership skills.
Maddison grew up in Minnesota and credits “The Bread and Butter State” with inspiring who she is, her passions and her hobbies. She loves being outside and partaking in outdoor activities, such as hunting, fishing, hiking, swimming, horseback riding, riding dirt bikes and four-wheeling.
While earning her undergraduate degree in Wisconsin, Maddison volunteered at a homeless outreach clinic. Listening to stories from that community has pushed her to dedicate her expertise to addressing health disparities.
Maddison currently mentors four undergraduate students from various universities around her. She loves working with them as they progress in their studies, and she sees the power of simply being there for them. “Becoming a mentor to these undergrads has impacted my passion of becoming a physician by instilling my passion for helping others and doing what I can to make an impact in others’ lives, whether that be in medicine or easing the minds and stress of my undergrad mentees during their first finals week on top of dealing with being online due to COVID,” Maddison says. “It is a learning process for all of us, but I am so grateful to be able to have such an opportunity to help the upcoming generation of students pursuing medicine.”
Thank you for your leadership, Maddison!
