Visiting medical students

Find the fourth-year clinical elective or sub-internship you need to thrive.

Visiting medical students

Thanks for your interest in applying for a clinical elective as a fourth-year visiting student with Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine. We offer a broad array of fourth-year elective clinical rotations that will enhance your medical knowledge through direct patient care experiences.

We offer two- and four-week rotations. Electives are only open to fourth-year medical students enrolled in medical schools accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) or the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA). Electives are offered primarily to clinical campus students. The remainder of the electives are filled on a competitive basis.

We offer electives at our following sites:

Geisinger uses the Visiting Student Learning Opportunities Program (VSLO) for all visiting student fourth-year elective applications. We begin accepting applications for visiting student rotations in April every year and continue to accept applications through the fall and winter, depending on availability. View our catalog of elective offerings and block schedule via VSLO for available electives and rotation dates.

You’re welcome to apply for a visiting student rotation with us to expand your learning experiences. However, acceptance into and/or completion of a visiting rotation doesn’t guarantee an invitation for a residency interview.
