Pain medicine offers an elective rotation in interventional pain management. Our physician staff provides interventions as part of a multidisciplinary program for the chronic pain patient population on an outpatient basis. Our staff is composed of physicians and physician assistants with training and experience in anesthesiology, rehabilitation medicine, and neurosurgery. There are five pain physicians and five physician assistants combined in Danville and Wilkes-Barre, annually caring for more than 8,000 patients with pain.
In addition to comprehensive interventional-based techniques for our patients, we provide complementary modalities in our clinic including behavioral medicine consultation, chronic pain medication management, orthopedic spine surgery consultation, rehabilitation consultation and acupuncture. The rotating medical student will be integrated into our services by becoming active in the daily care of our patients.
Our educational goals for rotating medical students include learning the basics of pain management, diagnosis of chronic pain conditions, formulation of comprehensive multidisciplinary chronic pain treatment plans, indications for pain interventions and an introduction to the technique of fluoroscopically-guided spine interventions. This elective is also offered in conjunction with medical student rotations in anesthesiology and palliative care medicine.
