Annual scholarships

  • AARP Scranton 3731 Scholarship is awarded to an MD student (one male/one female) who resides in Lackawanna County.
  • Angelina Fricchione Cupple and Michael Cupple Scholarship is provided through an endowment at the Scranton Area Foundation and is awarded to MD students who are residents of Lackawanna County and plan to pursue primary care medicine.
  • Appleseed Foundation Behavioral Health Scholarship is awarded to a third- or fourth-year MD student who is in good academic standing, resides in Luzerne County and expresses an interest in applying for residency in psychiatry with a strong desire to practice in Luzerne County post residency training.
  • Appleseed Foundation Healthcare Scholarship is awarded to an MD student from Luzerne County with an undergraduate overall GPA of 3.0 or better and expresses a strong desire to practice in Luzerne County post residency.  
  • Appleseed Foundation Scholarship is awarded to an MD student from Luzerne County with an undergraduate overall GPA of 3.0 or better and expresses a strong desire to practice in Luzerne County post residency
  • C.A.R.E. Annual Scholarship (Care, Aspire, Realize, Engage) is awarded to an incoming MD1 student who demonstrates need, merit or both, has participated in the pipeline program such as REACH-HEI and can be classified as underrepresented in medicine (URM) as defined by the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC).
  • Friends of Geisinger Commonwealth Scholarship is an anonymous scholarship given to an incoming student enrolled in the MD program based on merit or demonstrated need as defined by the Office of Financial Aid.
  • Geisinger Commonwealth Alumni Scholarship was originally established by the Charter Class of Geisinger Commonwealth. The award goes to a Geisinger Commonwealth student who exemplifies the mission of Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine as demonstrated by a commitment to service and a community-minded spirit.
  • Geisinger Commonwealth Student Scholarship is made possible by the contributions of the employees of Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine and will help fund an MD1 student based on merit and/or need. This award will go to a student representing Geisinger Commonwealth’s northeastern and north central Pennsylvania region.
  • John J. Menapace Scholarship is awarded to an incoming student enrolled in the MD program based on merit or demonstrated financial need.
  • Northeastern Pennsylvania Health Care Foundation Scholarships are awarded to students who plan to return to their native counties of Lackawanna, Luzerne or Wyoming to practice medicine following their education and professional training. Two new NEPA Health Care Foundation Scholars are selected from each incoming class.
  • Sanofi Pasteur Annual Scholarship is awarded to an incoming MD1 student who demonstrates need, merit or both, first preference to a Monroe County resident with a second preference to Lackawanna, Luzerne or Northampton counties.
  • Sarah Wright Memorial Annual Scholarship is a need based award that gives first preference to incoming MD students from any of the northeastern and north central Pennsylvania counties identified as Geisinger Commonwealth’s primary region with second preference given to students from Pennsylvania.
  • Scranton Endowed Scholarship is awarded to an incoming MD1 student who demonstrates need, merit or both, must reside in one of the regionally preferred counties serviced by Geisinger Commonwealth and must be in good academic standing.
  • Sondra and Morey Myers, Esq. Scholarship is awarded to a student enrolled in the MD program that has traditionally been underrepresented in higher education, is high performing and has overcome great adversity. The student must demonstrate a commitment to community service and a desire to continuously seek and advance the creation of knowledge to improve the human condition.
  • The Stephen and Pamela Poorman Physician Annual Scholarship was established to provide an award to a Lock Haven University student or to any qualified resident in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania who has obtained an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Villaume Scholarship is awarded to an MD student from Wayne County.
  • Wayne Memorial Health Scholarship is awarded to a MD1 student who is a resident of Wayne or Pike counties or from the greater Carbondale area of Lackawanna and Susquehanna counties who demonstrates financial need as determined by the office of financial aid.
  • Wilkes-Barre General Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship is awarded to a Geisinger Commonwealth student who is attending the South Campus in their third year and attended a high school within Luzerne County.

Endowed funds

  • Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine Endowed Scholarship is awarded to an incoming Doctor of Medicine (MD) student based on the student’s merit and/or demonstrated financial need.
  • Jennifer A Sidari, MD ’13, Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established in the memory of Dr. Jennifer Sidari who graduated from Geisinger Commonwealth’s Charter Class. This scholarship is awarded to an MD1 student from Lackawanna or Luzerne County who expresses an interest in community service and a desire to practice in northeastern Pennsylvania.
  • Michael and Louise Altier Medical Endowed Scholarship is awarded to students enrolled in the MD program at Geisinger Commonwealth with initial preference given to students from Lackawanna County. This award is based on merit or demonstrated financial need.
  • Myer Alperin Family Medical Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a student in the MD program selected based on merit or need.
