Pre-medical Mentoring and Advising Program (PMAP)

The Pre-medical Mentoring and Advising Program (PMAP) at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine (GCSOM) is a longitudinal mentoring program for undergraduate and post-graduate students interested in or currently applying to medical school.

As a mentee in our program, you will be carefully paired with a medical student at GCSOM who will serve as your mentor to help guide you through anything and everything related to medical school. This includes, but is not limited to: advising mentees on selecting undergraduate classes; finding research, volunteer or clinical experiences; preparing and completing the medical school application; crafting personal statements; and coaching students as they prep for medical school interviews. Your mentor will be paired with you up until your first day of medical school and can advise you on any questions that you may have throughout the entirety of the pre-medical process.

In addition to the longitudinal one-on-one mentorship provided by PMAP, mentors also host interactive workshops to promote professionalism and help mentees acquire strong interview skills and gain a comprehensive understanding of the application process. PMAP offers a personalized pre-med experience and provides support and guidance from medical students with first-hand experience.

Becoming a mentee through PMAP is completely free of charge and is a unique way to supplement your undergraduate pre-health advising.

PMAP is currently partnered with the following seven institutions: Juniata College, Marywood University, Misericordia University, Muhlenberg College, Temple University, The University of Scranton and Wilkes University. PMAP accepts pre-medical students from these institutions beginning their freshman year of college. At the moment, mentee sign-ups are limited to current or previous students from the above schools only.

To sign up for the program, take a moment to complete the intake survey. Once you submit the survey, please allow up to two weeks for the matching process.

Feel free to reach out to the PMAP Executive Board at GCSOMpmap@gmail.com with any questions, concerns or inquiries. We look forward to welcoming you to PMAP!
