Biography

Michelle Schmude, EdD, MBA, is the associate dean for admissions, enrollment management & financial aid and associate professor at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor’s degree in business and history. In 1999, she graduated from Point Park University with an international master of business administration degree. Michelle received her EdD from Wilkes University.

Dr. Schmude held various positions at Point Park University, including the dean of full-time admission and was responsible for all admissions-related marketing and advertising. She served King's College as chairperson of the department of mass communications, director of college marketing and advertising and dean of admission.

In 2018 and 2019, Dr. Schmude returned to the Harvard Macy Institute’s Program for Educators in Health Professions as a faculty member where she leads microteaching, project groups and sessions on effective communications for healthcare teams. She was a scholar in the 2017 program for her research on ePortfolios and professional identity formation in medical students. In addition, Dr. Schmude is collaborating on a multi-institution effort to advance professionalism and interprofessional education with ProfessionalFormation.org funded through the Josiah Macy Foundation. She presented “Creation of an ePortfolio to promote professionalism and explore the intersection with resiliency” at the Academy for Professionalism In Health Care (APHC) Conference and co-presented “Design Thinking as a Framework for the Creation of an ePortfolio to Promote and Assess the Professionalism Competency” at the Association of American Colleges & Universities (AAC&U) National Conference. Dr. Schmude has published “A Case Study in Appreciative Advising for Student Success” and “Interprofessional and Healthcare Careers.” Finally, Dr. Schmude was recently appointed to the National Association of Colleges and Employers Promise of Value Task Force.
