Biography

Shubhra Shetty, MD, FACP, was born and raised in India in a military family, traveling all over the country. After high school, she joined medical school at the Armed Forces Medical College, after which she served in the Indian Armed Forces for three years. In 1991, she moved to the U.S. with her husband, who is also a physician. They both trained in SUNY Brooklyn, N.Y. in the early 90s, when the HIV/AIDS and crack epidemics were peaking. This experience led Dr. Shetty to a career in infectious disease, and she did a fellowship in infectious disease at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. Life’s twists and turns brought Dr. Shetty to northeastern Pennsylvania, which she has called home for more than 16 years.

Dr. Shetty helped establish the first Ryan White Infectious Disease Clinic in the northeastern Pennsylvania region, which serves a seven-county area, and takes care of 430 patients. She serves as the medical director of The Wright Center’s HIV Clinic in Scranton and as an infectious disease consultant in two area hospitals. Dr. Shetty become Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine’s regional associate dean for the North Campus in 2014.
