Biography
Susan Russell, MD, is an assistant professor at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine (GCSOM). Dr. Russell has been an instructor with the school since 2014, initially working as a clinical skills facilitator. Since 2016, she has been an assistant professor, teaching Art and Practice of Medicine, Patient-centered Medicine and Case-based Learning. In addition to teaching at the medical school, she has been employed by Geisinger as a family physician since 1996. She has done multiple overseas global health missions with Samaritan’s Purse, and currently serves as a faculty advisor for GCSOM's Christian Medical and Dental Association.
Prior to joining GCSOM, Dr. Russell worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Health and served as a civilian physician with the Air Force, focusing on gynecology and pediatrics. She has done some ER work previously and worked for the American Academy of Pediatrics as a peer immunization educator. While working part-time for many years, Susan invested a great deal of time educating her children at home. She feels that the experience she gained educating them has contributed greatly to her passion for educating the next generation of physicians.
