Interview day

We interview 20 candidates for our two available positions. Interviews are typically held in the middle of November. Candidates will receive an email invitation and given a choice for the date of their interview. Dates are given on a first come first serve basis.

Candidates are encouraged to make a reservation at the Pine Barn Inn, located adjacent to the hospital. You may check in any time after 4 p.m. You are invited to attend a social dinner with our residents at 6 p.m. at the Pine Barn Inn restaurant.

The interview day begins at 7:30 a.m. with a welcome breakfast in the café at the Henry Hood Conference Center. This is an informal session with available attending and members of the housestaff. At 8 a.m. candidates will meet with the program director, associate program director and chairman (if available) for a formal presentation to discuss the history of Geisinger Medical Center, the mission of the institution, the goals of our residency training program and specifics about the various resident activities and requirements of the education program.

Candidates will then be split into two groups. Group A will begin one on one interviews with the program director, associate program director, and several key faculty members. Group B will go on a tour of Geisinger Medical Center, Woodbine Outpatient Surgery Center, and the Danville area (wear comfortable shoes).

During lunch, residents will be available for a “closed door” group meeting. Following lunch, the groups will switch; group B will complete their interviews while group A goes on the tour. Lastly, there will be a closing meeting with the program director and associate program director to answer any new questions.
