Program director message

On behalf of the PCCM Fellowship, I invite you to explore our program. We have a wonderful group of faculty with interest in ensuring that our fellows have an excellent education in pulmonary and critical care medicine.

Our patient population is as diverse as our faculty, both in terms of disease and cultural heritage. We are the referral center of choice for the northeast and central portions of Pennsylvania. We are a level I Trauma Center, a Stroke Center, an advanced Cardiac Care Center, and a Liver Transplantation Center. There are four adult ICU environments on our campus, staffed by various CCM teams. Our electronic ICU (eICU) platform allows us to provide critical care cervices to all hospitals within Geisinger Health System as well as several other hospitals in central Pennsylvania. We provide QI/QA as well as leadership training, with the opportunity to explore the business aspects of critical care medicine.

Additionally we have a robust ethics and communication skills component in our curriculum, with a bioethics institute on campus. Our program includes three months of training dedicated to echocardiography in the two-year track.

Most recently, Geisinger has established the Geisinger Education and Medical Simulation Center (GEMS). The CCM fellowship is working closely with GEMS center staff to establish a robust simulation program within the CCM fellowship. A state-of-the-art bronchoscopy simulator arrived on campus in Spring 2014. Central line insertions, emergent surgical airways and chest tube insertions are also taught in the GEMS center.
