About us

The Geisinger Vascular Surgery Fellowship is an ACGME-accredited two-per-year, two-year program at Geisinger Medical Center that provides training for general surgery residency graduates planning careers in vascular surgery. The fellowship has been in existence since 1981 and achieved RRC accreditation in 1991. To date, all of our graduating fellows have successfully completed the American Board of Vascular Surgery Examination.

The fellowship in vascular surgery is a comprehensive and intensive program during which fellows will be expected to:

  • Develop into a fully autonomous and independent vascular surgeon who will provide excellent, safe, and compassionate care upon entering the workforce
  • Attain competence and confidence in the evaluation, operative treatment and non-operative management of patients with disorders of the arterial, venous, and lymphatic systems
  • Establish a pattern of continuous self-learning and inquiry into the field of Vascular Surgery that allows for ongoing delivery of advanced care
  • Develop a sense of professionalism that will allow their patients and colleagues to develop trust in their medical expertise and regard them as leaders in the care of patients with vascular disease
  • Upon completion of the vascular surgery fellowship, have all the clinical education and experience needed to prepare themselves for certification by the American Board of Vascular Surgery
  • Understand all noninvasive vascular laboratory studies and their role in patient care, achieve certification by the ARDMS (i.e., RPVI Certification) and be prepared to be the director of a noninvasive vascular laboratory
