Pharmacy Postdoctoral Fellowship in Research and Innovation

Develop your skills to identify and solve real-world pharmacy challenges impacting health systems today.

About us

Program mission

To develop highly successful pharmacists able to transform pharmacy practice and step into research or leadership positions with confidence and skill.

Goal

Through this highly individualized two-year program, you will be prepared to enter a complex healthcare system. You’ll learn a systematic process to identify and address real-world pharmacy challenges using advanced practice, analytics, economic modeling and leadership.

Focus areas (two fellowship options)

As a postdoctoral fellow, you will be able to choose from one of two tracks.

The Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) and Health Services Research fellowship will integrate into a clinical environment and grow your skill set in innovation and research. You’ll gain skills and demonstrate proficiency in idea generation, research design and execution, evaluation and analysis. You will learn how to:

  • Effectively write and apply for external and internal grants
  • Develop and submit an IRB protocol
  • Design a study
  • Conduct statistical analyses
  • Participate in and lead an investigation
  • Develop project management skills
  • Present at national meetings
  • Prepare abstracts and manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals

Team science is part of the development of the candidate and research methods include qualitative and quantitative methods. Highlights include implementation science and effectiveness of health services. You will have an opportunity to engage and collaborate in various funded projects evaluating medication use within the healthcare setting.

The Health System Science/Industry Relations fellowship will grow your understanding of the health system for eventual positions in strategy, innovation and collaboration roles in health systems. Complementary to typical industry fellowships, you’ll be engaged in innovative initiatives within our integrated health system (clinical, payer, pharmacy) including, but not limited to:

  • New contract designs
  • Innovative practices and models that are scalable to other systems
  • Creative industry relations and collaborations

Through this program you’ll develop excellent communication skills though hands-on training with internal and external stakeholders. This fellowship will focus on health system science development to move the graduate into system-level positions within healthcare organizations. One or more research/innovative projects with potential for presentation and publication are expected.
