PGY-1 residency: MedStar Washington Hospital Center, District of Columbia
Why Geisinger? I chose Geisinger because pharmacy residents are challenged intellectually and professionally in a supportive environment. Residents also have a level of autonomy that drives learning engagement and promotes independence. During the first meeting with the hematology/oncology team, it was evident that the program offers tremendous opportunities that exceed other pharmacy residency programs, as it is centered on the institution’s commitment to its residents. The program offers rotations in oncology and hematology, inpatient and outpatient, along with a variety of rotations that will advance my clinical knowledge in the various areas of this field of specialty. The types of rotations and the combination of longitudinal and periodic clinical experiences offered through this program are tailored to fit my future goals. Aside from what the Geisinger residency program has to offer, it has been an enriching experience to live in a small town serving a diverse population of rural Pennsylvania.

Erin Eickman, PharmD
PGY1 residency: St. Joseph’s/Candler Health System, Savannah, GA
Why Geisinger? I chose Geisinger because of the wide variety of rotation options that will allow me to gain a well-rounded hematology and oncology background while also being able to provide me with specific rotations that fit my interests and will aid my transition into my future career. Geisinger has a great focus on innovation and developing new services that will give me the opportunity to build practical skills that will be invaluable for expanding my own practice someday. The preceptors and leadership in this program are encouraging and supportive as I push myself to become an expert in hematology and oncology, and I could not ask for better people to learn from and work beside each day.
