The transitional year curriculum is designed to give a broad overview of several different areas to prepare you for future residency training and careers. There is a mix of inpatient and outpatient experiences. Core rotations include internal medicine, emergency medicine, surgery and psychiatry. Most rotations are four weeks long, with a total of 13 blocks over the course of the year. There is plenty of opportunities to customize your year with elective rotations. Some residents choose to compliment their community hospital experience at Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital with elective rotations at either Geisinger Medical Center (a large quaternary referral hospital, located only 10 miles away) or Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center (in Wilkes Barre, Pa.).
