Center for Learning Excellence
The Center for Learning Excellence (CLE) provides academic support and advising services to enhance your interpersonal and educational experiences.
The CLE supports you in understanding the policies associated with medical education training and the processes for navigating them.
CLE staff works closely with you to develop ongoing academic and personal goals/plans and supports you to maintain good academic standing to reach your educational goals.
CLE staff provide referrals to academic, professional and personal support services within the school and larger community, as needed.
We provide individual academic support in:
- Time management
- Higher-level study skills
- Study guide construction
- Memory techniques
- Test-taking strategies
We offer you peer tutoring at no additional cost through small group and individual formats. Faculty are available to help you with course content through office hours and online discussions.
CLE staff provide workshops to assist you with academic organization and study strategies to support your goals.
Professional skill development:
CLE staff facilitate workshops and one-on-one meetings to help you develop professional skills.
Workshops and individualized support are provided to support your success on high-stakes licensing exams, such as the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1 for MD students.
Peer mentor program:
If you’re an incoming student, CLE staff pairs you with an upper-class mentor. The program provides ongoing assistance and support, introduces you to campus and community resources and helps identify and implement networking activities.
Having a diverse group of students in our classrooms makes the learning environment more engaging, dynamic and rich, and results in stronger learning outcomes. Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine students come to our classrooms with unique sets of needs and abilities, including physical, psychological and cognitive differences. We are committed to creating accessible teaching and learning environments that would ensure our diverse student body have effective and meaningful access to educational materials, teaching methods, learning experiences, assessments and communications from the instructor.
If you have a documented disability (or think you may have a disability) and, as a result, need reasonable accommodations, contact Kate Dickerson in the CLE at firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible. To receive academic or non-academic accommodations, you must be appropriately registered with the CLE. The CLE works with students confidentially and does not disclose any disability-related information without their permission.
