The director for student engagement, diversity and inclusion is committed to fostering a supportive educational environment for all faculty, staff and students regardless of age, gender, national origin, religion, race, physical, mental, emotional ability, dis(ability) or sexual orientation. The director for student engagement, diversity and inclusion encourages commitment to the principles of respect, diversity and inclusion by all who work, study, teach and visit within the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine community.
Vision
- Students, faculty and staff will create and support a campus environment encouraging respect, diversity and inclusion.
- The director for student engagement, diversity and inclusion, in collaboration with campus and community stakeholders, is committed to educating the community of the negative effects of racism, sexism, ageism, homophobia, religious intolerance and other forms of prejudice, and engaging one another in positive dialogue on these issues.
- The director for student engagement, diversity and inclusion believes that disparaging comments of sexism or racism or questioning of human abilities based upon individual differences, or behaviors that undermine the goals of our educational community are inconsistent with common decency and impede community fulfillment of the Geisinger Commonwealth mission.
- The director for student engagement, diversity and inclusion encourages behavior that does not support prejudice resulting in physical or psychological abuse, harassment, intimidation or violence against person or property on campus and in the community.
- The director for student engagement, diversity and inclusion rejects recklessness or negligent behavior, ignorance or substance abuse as an excuse, reason or rationale for the manifestation of behavior that does not support respect for difference.
