Black Diamonds Magazine

Black Diamonds, Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine’s arts and literary magazine, features the creative work of students, alumni, residents, fellows, faculty, staff and friends of the school.

Call for submissions

The Black Diamonds Arts and Literary Magazine Committee is seeking entries for its 2020 issue!

Entries for consideration must be original work, suited for a broad audience of all ages and interests and may include poems, short essays, short stories, drawings, paintings, photography, etc. that appropriately reflect Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine's commitment to community, well-being and innovation.

This year’s theme is “roots.” If you want to create something that speaks to the cause/source/origin of something (the roots of becoming med student, the roots of medicine, the roots of caring, and so on as you interpret it!), please do. Submissions do not have to follow the theme if you have other work you want to submit. The theme is a jumping off point if needed.

Entries must be sent to medical student Vanessa Thiel at no later than close of business on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020.

  • Each entry (digital file, word document, etc.) must be labeled with the name of artwork and entrant’s name.
  • Within the email, please include entrant’s name as it should appear in the magazine, as well as entrant’s role within Geisinger Commonwealth (student and class year, or faculty/staff title and department.)
  • If the submission is accepted for publication, entrant will be required to sign and return a release for publication form.
