Examining the burden of kidney disease and complications
Using the large, dynamic Geisinger clinical chronic kidney disease (CKD) cohort and through collaborations with external investigators Chronic Kidney Disease Prognosis Consortium (CKD-PC), researchers at the KHRI continue to investigate risk factors and risk prognostication of CKD and its associated complications. Examples of recent contributions to the CKD field utilizing Geisinger data include: developing new tools to estimate end-stage renal disease (ESRD) risk, identifying proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) as a risk factor for CKD, and examining the prevalence and current management strategies of hyperkalemia at Geisinger.
