Research Interests

My primary research interest is chronic disease epidemiology using the longitudinal electronic medical record (EMR). I focus on the environmental and genetic epidemiology of chronic respiratory inflammatory diseases and pediatric familial hypercholesterolemia, to understand the etiology and pathogenesis of these diseases. I have worked on phenotyping diseases like chronic rhinosinusitis and different asthma outcomes of interest using EMR, providing subsequent ability to study the epidemiology of these diseases at the primary care level or in the general population. I also use survey methodology to complement and evaluate EMR data for chronic rhinosinusitis. I am part of the Environmental Health Institute at Geisinger, exploring the environmental determinants of chronic rhinosinusitis and asthma, like community socioeconomic deprivation, residential greenness index, distance to roadways and community type. I am also working on evaluating different aspects of missing heritability for asthma by assessing rare variants and gene-environment interaction.
