Interventional radiology
Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine’s interventional radiology elective in Danville, Pa., is a two- or four-week patient care experience intended to provide comprehensive exposure to vascular and interventional radiology procedures. These procedures include angiography/angioplasty, thrombectomy/thrombolysis, hepatobiliary interventions, genitourinary interventions, dialysis access interventions, venography and interventional oncology procedures.
By working one on one with attendings and residents on service, you’ll gain an understanding of interventional radiology and its relevance to other medical and surgical subspecialties. You’ll also gain insight into interventional radiology as a potential career. We’ll encourage you to scrub into and assist in as many procedures as possible during the elective. When not directly participating in a case, you’ll be encouraged to directly observe the case, either in the fluoroscopy, CT scanner or at the bedside.
