Geisinger’s Transitional Year Residency Program is a comprehensive one-year experience if you’re planning to enter dermatology, ophthalmology, radiology, anesthesiology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, or another advanced residency the following year.

With most of the training based at Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital, you’ll benefit from the smaller community hospital feel while still having access to the many resources of a large, quaternary referral hospital: Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pa. You’ll even have an opportunity to do elective rotations at Geisinger Medical Center (just 10 miles from Bloomsburg) or at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre.

As part of the transitional year residency in Bloomsburg, you’ll receive one-on-one teaching from clinical faculty with years of experience teaching residents.

Throughout the year, you and other residents will rotate through inpatient internal medicine, emergency medicine, surgery, outpatient primary care and inpatient psychiatry. You’ll also have ample opportunities for electives in a wide variety of clinical areas to support your personal and professional growth. The broad clinical training you get will give you a solid foundation for your future residency training and career.
