Geisinger’s Transitional Year Residency Program is designed as a one-year experience for individuals that are planning to enter dermatology, ophthalmology, radiology, anesthesiology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, and other advanced residencies the following year.
With most of the training based out of the Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital (GBH), you benefit from the smaller community hospital feel, while still having access to the many resources of a large, quaternary referral hospital in Geisinger Medical Center (GMC) in Danville, Pa. There is even an opportunity to do elective rotations at GMC (a short 10 miles from GBH) or Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.
As part of the transitional year residency in Bloomsburg, you receive 1:1 teaching from experienced clinical faculty who have many years of experience teaching residents.
Throughout the year, our residents rotate through inpatient internal medicine, emergency medicine, surgery, outpatient primary care and inpatient psychiatry. There is also ample opportunities for electives in a wide variety of clinical areas to support your personal and professional growth. The broad clinical training you get will give you a solid foundation for your future residency training and career.
