- Clinical services
- Crisis intervention
- Connection to resources
- Virtual services
- Education and outreach
Confidentiality
Student records are confidential. Information can’t be released without the student’s written consent. By law, certain public health diseases must be reported to the Department of Health. Exceptions where confidentiality can be broken include:
- If a student is found to be a danger to themselves or others.
- There is reasonable suspicion of abuse to a child, elderly person or other vulnerable adult.
- The case file is court ordered by a judge.
Provision of sensitive health services to Geisinger College students
Certain health and psychological/psychiatric issues may be sensitive. And a professional patient relationship between Geisinger College faculty and students would be inconsistent with a teacher-student relationship.
Should a Geisinger College faculty member provide a student with health services of a sensitive nature, that faculty member won’t be involved in the student’s academic evaluation or promotion.
Clinical services
Individual counseling
Student Psychological Services provides individual psychotherapy to students who live in Pennsylvania or New Jersey. Our partners at TimelyCare provide free virtual care to all students, including those who live outside our service region. If you want to find other care and need help finding a provider, email sps@geisinger.edu.
Psychiatric services
Psychiatric services are available, on a limited basis, for students who may benefit from medical management of mental health symptoms. These services are provided through TimelyCare, but students must receive a referral from SPS counselors.
To get started, connect with a counselor through Student Psychological Services.
