Endocrinology Fellowship
Get immersive, collaborative training in all areas of endocrinology.
About the program
Geisinger’s ACGME-accredited Endocrinology Fellowship prepares you to become a skilled, compassionate endocrinologist through rigorous clinical training, close mentorship and progressive autonomy within a collaborative, patient-centered and innovative health system.
As a large integrated health system serving more than 1 million people across central, south-central and northeastern Pennsylvania, Geisinger offers fellows exposure to a high-volume referral population and complex endocrine pathology within central Pennsylvania’s major tertiary and quaternary care environment.
A distinctive strength of the program is Geisinger’s leadership in genomic medicine through the MyCode® Community Health Initiative. Fellows care for patients identified through population-scale genetic screening and gain exposure to hereditary and rare endocrine conditions, including MEN syndromes, RET-associated endocrine disease, SDH-associated pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma syndromes, monogenic diabetes, CHEK2-associated disorders, hypophosphatasia and other inherited endocrine and metabolic bone diseases.
You’ll train in Geisinger’s high-volume thyroid cancer program, participate in multidisciplinary tumor board conferences and receive hands-on training in point-of-care thyroid ultrasound and ultrasound-guided thyroid biopsy. This experience builds expertise in managing patients with complex and aggressive thyroid cancers.
The program also offers meaningful exposure to gender-affirming endocrine care and menopausal hormone therapy, with faculty experienced in caring for these patients and committed to teaching respectful, evidence-based, patient-centered hormone care.
Geisinger’s large and complex diabetes population gives fellows hands-on experience with insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitoring and automated insulin delivery systems. Fellows also participate in multidisciplinary cystic fibrosis clinic.
You’ll receive dedicated training in DEXA scan interpretation and the management of osteoporosis, parathyroid disorders and metabolic bone diseases.
Additional experiences include a multidisciplinary neuroendocrine clinic for pituitary care in collaboration with neurosurgery.
You’ll also gain experience managing adrenal disorders, including interpretation of adrenal venous sampling performed by Geisinger Interventional Radiology.
Elective opportunities allow you to tailor training to your career interests and may include:
- Cardiology-led lipid clinic
- Dedicated weight management
- Maternal-fetal medicine
- Pediatric endocrinology
- Nuclear medicine
- Ophthalmology
- Podiatry
You’ll have opportunities to participate in research and quality improvement projects supported by Geisinger’s large clinical population, integrated electronic health record and genomic medicine infrastructure.
With individualized mentorship, you’ll explore your interests, strengthen clinical judgment, develop scholarly focus and prepare for a career in academic medicine, community practice or subspecialty-focused endocrinology.
