Gastrointestinal and Liver Pathology Fellowship

Develop the skills you need to be a competent and experienced practitioner.

About us

Our 1-year GI/liver fellowship program gives you in-depth training in the principles, theory and technologies of GI/liver pathology. The program will train you to be a confident GI/liver specialist.

To prepare you for competency:

  • Our dedicated faculty includes 4 subspecialized GI/liver fellowship trained pathologists and 40 faculty who give you intensive training.
  • The Geisinger Medical Center laboratory receives high-volume, high-complexity cases, including about 65,000 GI biopsy and resection cases, with 450 pancreas cases and 3,500 liver cases (including liver transplantation cases) each year. The pancreatic tissues from Whipple procedure are entirely submitted and processed as whole mount slides.
  • Accurate diagnoses are supported by integrating advanced immunohistochemical staining and NGS data.

This program is in the process of earning ACGME accreditation.
