About us
The Hepatology Fellowship, launched in 2025 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, Pa., offers thorough 1-on-1 education in all aspects of hepatology (transplant and non-transplant). The curriculum provides an optimum foundation of clinical, didactic and research experience for a career in clinical hepatology. The key objective is to train physicians in the management of liver disease in both outpatient and inpatient settings. The 1-year Hepatology Fellowship is housed in the Gastroenterology department. Geisinger has 4 transplant hepatologists, 1 general hepatologist, 3 transplant surgeons, multiple hepato-pathologists, hepato-radiologists and interventional radiologists who are supported by multiple APPs, 2 clinical pharmacists and nurse coordinators.

Thank you for your interest in the Hepatology Fellowship at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, Pa. Our program is committed to training the next generation of hepatology care providers. Our program focuses on clinical excellence, multidisciplinary care models and quality of care.
Our liver transplant program is uniquely located in a rural setting, where it caters to the needs of central Pennsylvanians. Here, the trainee will learn and practice in a clinical environment where the patient comes first. We are committed to providing innovative clinical solutions to our patients by continuously updating and applying new therapies, techniques and modalities. Program overview
During the Hepatology Fellowship, you’ll develop skills in liver disease diagnosis and management, techniques such as fibroscan, teaching and research. After discussion with the program director, elective rotations will be considered in interventional radiology, endo-hepatology and liver pathology. Fellows are expected to present monthly case conferences and journal clubs. Attending and presenting at liver transplant committee meetings, liver tumors board and 1-on-1 instruction are all integral parts of this training program. You’ll also be expected to conduct clinical research under the supervision of a mentorship committee.
To help you gain proficiency, your performance will be monitored throughout the training period. You’ll meet with a supervising faculty member after each clinical rotation. And you’ll will meet with the program director quarterly to assess your progress.

Location
Danville, Pa., is a unique and wonderful place to train. Opportunities for outdoor recreation are endless, the cost of living is low and traffic is almost nonexistent. We’re also close enough to Philadelphia, New York City and Washington, D.C., to make weekend getaways easy.
