Geisinger’s Orthopaedics Residency participates in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) for National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) matching candidates.

Resident selection overview

Our orthopaedic surgery residency length is five years, and our program accepts four PGY1 resident trainees to begin on July 1 of each year. Interviewees are selected based on review of their application with emphasis on medical school transcripts, letters of recommendation and available USMLE scores.

The interview process takes place in December and January. If you are selected to interview, you will meet with faculty members and residents in small group sessions. Historically, the night prior to the interview includes an informal “meet and greet” with faculty and resident staff at a local venue.

Medical student rotations

All qualified applicants seeking a residency in orthopaedics are openly encouraged to apply for a traditional rotation as outlined here. A limited number of travel stipends are available to those who meet eligibility criteria.

For more information about Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS) rotations or general program questions, contact Geisinger's medical education department at medstudents@geisinger.edu or Jessica Temple, GME program manager, at jltemple@geisinger.edu.
