Program overview

Pursue a career in nursing with financial assistance and guaranteed employment at Geisinger after graduation.

Financial support

  • You can receive $40,000 in assistance to help you in your journey to become an RN. This includes:
    • $20,000 upfront as an educational resource.
    • An additional $20,000 when you begin your employment as an inpatient Geisinger RN.
  • Three-year work commitment at Geisinger after completing your education in exchange for the $40,000.  No money is owed back to Geisinger if the three-year commitment is completed.

How to apply 

To apply for the Geisinger’s Nursing Scholars Program:

Spring and Fall 2025:

  1. Submit an application to the associate degree in nursing program.
  2. Answer “yes” to the first question on the Geisinger School of Nursing application regarding interest in applying to the Geisinger’s Nursing Scholars Program.
  3. Upon acceptance to the GSON, additional information will be provided for the process of applying to the Geisinger’s Nursing Scholars Program.

If already a GSON student:

  1. If you are already a GSON student and are more than 12 months away from graduation, you can apply online.

Application questions

What are the selection criteria?

Students are selected to participate based on the following selection criteria: 

  • Accepted to Geisinger School of Nursing
  • If you are already a Geisinger employee, you must be in good standing.
What does “work commitment” mean?

The work commitment of three years as an inpatient Geisinger RN is in lieu of repaying the education loan. No money is owed back to Geisinger as long as the three-year work commitment is fulfilled.
When are the recipients notified that they have been chosen?

Recipients are notified via email after the selection committee reviews applications.
What if I have questions before I enroll?

Financial questions

What are the financial benefits?

Scholars receive a $40,000 educational loan to help them along their journey to become an RN.
Are other forms of financial aid available?

Yes, students are strongly encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) annually, to be considered for federal, state, and institutional resources.

What if I have questions once I’m enrolled?

What if I must take medical or personal leave while in school?

Per the loan agreement, Scholars have an additional year after their original anticipated graduation date to complete their studies just in case leaves must be taken.
Will I have academic performance requirements?

A Scholar must remain in good academic standing to be able to graduate within one year of their original anticipated graduation date.
Is the curriculum different for scholars?

The curriculum is the same and follows the same progression as all other students in their class.
