Pharmacy Postdoctoral Fellowship in Research and Innovation

Develop your skills to identify and solve real-world pharmacy challenges impacting health systems today.

About the program

Program mission

To develop highly successful clinician-scientists able to advance pharmacy practice and step into practice-based research and/or leadership positions with confidence and skill.

Goal

Through this highly individualized 2-year program, you will be prepared to enter a complex and rapidly evolving healthcare system. You’ll learn a systematic process to identify, evaluate and address real-world pharmacy challenges across a variety of intersecting areas. Faculty in Geisinger’s Center for Pharmacy Innovation and Outcomes will mentor you in developing foundational skills in grantsmanship, scholarship and leadership necessary to conduct scalable research that is relevant, responsive and significant to real-world practice needs.

Focus

We seek PharmD and/or PhD graduates for a pharmacy-focused, agile postdoctoral fellowship designed to cultivate leaders in healthcare innovation, strategy and research. The program intentionally blends the expertise of faculty, the interests and strengths of fellows and high-priority care gaps through a solution-driven approach to research and innovation that spans multiple domains (e.g., ambulatory care, digital healthcare, implementation science, health system science, pharmacogenomics, pharmaceutical care, health behavior theory).

As our fellow, you’ll be embedded in an integrated health system and gain hands-on experience in:

  • Grant writing
  • Study design and statistical analysis
  • Project management and team science
  • Presentation at local, regional, and national conferences
  • Manuscript preparation for peer-reviewed journals
  • Implementation science and evaluation of health services
  • Participation in funded projects focused on medication use and optimization

In addition to research training, you will develop an understanding of health system operations and strategy, preparing you for future roles in clinical leadership, innovation and system-level positions. You will lead one or more projects and disseminate results through publication and presentation.

This fellowship is ideal for candidates seeking to drive meaningful change in pharmacy and healthcare through evidence-based research and strategic system thinking.
