About us

Geisinger’s Specialty Pharmacy and Specialty Clinics Residency prepares you for advanced practice in specialty pharmacy. You’ll complete rotations in diverse ambulatory care specialty clinics, working under a collaborative practice agreement with interprofessional teams to manage complex diseases and optimize use of high-cost medications. You’ll also gain hands-on experience in Geisinger Specialty Pharmacy, participating in dispensing, patient education and adherence monitoring. The curriculum is personalized to support each resident’s professional goals, with opportunities for quality improvement, leadership development and innovative practice. Our program fosters compassionate, forward-thinking pharmacists equipped to lead in a rapidly evolving healthcare environment.

Staffing requirements

  • 16 hours every 2 weeks: 4 hours 1 day during the work week and 8 hours every other weekend
  • A mix of in-person and remote specialty pharmacy staffing

Salary, benefits & employment information

The stipend is $63,000 per year. This is paid in 2-week intervals and taxed as salary. Other benefits include an excellent healthcare benefits package, paid time off and paid administrative leave for educational meetings (ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and Eastern States Residents Conference). You’ll have a dedicated workspace with a computer.

What teaching opportunities exist?

  • Clinician Educator Track: This program prepares pharmacy residents to serve as clinician educators and preceptors for pharmacy students, fellow residents and interprofessional learners across the healthcare continuum. It’s intended for pharmacists who remain active in clinical practice and who mentor learners in that environment.
    • You’ll have the opportunity to help precept students at the Geisinger Specialty Pharmacy. As precepting skills continue to develop, you’ll be able to serve as the primary preceptor for an APPE student.
